about
I took a class where we examined AIDS and American culture through the crazy hysteria/fear/compassion that erupted in the press and in creative media. I wrote and produced this song as my final project - so the images and lyrics were inspired by some of the photos, movies, and poetry that we covered.
lyrics
knives around your face
frozen, turned away
nothing left to do now
nothing left to say
I could help you with your dress
if the room was cold enough,
what a bloody, painful mess we make
trying to be loved
heard you were waiting to finally come undone
heard you were looking for a little yellow sun
I came to wait with you
I came to look for you
to be forgiven too
oh angel, what a war
where'd you hide that little jade
I stole in mexico
for the jewelry box you made
when life was smooth and slow
we were never innocent
spilled out on the sand
unsure of the difference
between ocean and dry land
chorus
locked up in a hallway
back against the door
skinny by the window
sunlight across the floor
name written on your bracelet
says "casualty of war"
you keep telling me you're sorry
that's not what I came here for...
chorus
